Ego Maniac of the Week:
Aron Gibson
Because we are such big fans of our fans, we are now featuring a new Ego Maniac weekly.
Our very first shout-out goes to Aron Gibson, a writer-rocker who fronts the power punk trio
The Swagger Sticks. For the past year, Aron has also published AFG Must Rock, a music blog focusing on punk rock and the local Los Angeles music scene.
A Chicago native, he played in the local music scene and moved to New York in 1996.
In New York he was one of the first employees in an Internet startup founded by Jack Rieley, the one-time producer/manager of the Beach Boys. The company moved to Los Angeles in 1997 and Gibson stayed until 2004 until finally, after being frustrated by his lack of creative freedom, he started his own company and began refocusing his energies on music.
In December 2005 his Tenacious D-inspired duo, which started as a joke was "discovered" by
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He ended up
in a comedy bit with Stuttering John singing
Night Ranger’s classic 80s power ballad, "Sister Christian."
In 2007 Gibson received a songwriting scholarship from Concord Records and he began recording his songs in his garage. In August 2009 The Swagger Sticks released their debut, Stick it, which was produced by Jeff Lewis, co-owner of Moonlight Studios, and one-time trumpet player for The Jackson Five.
In November 2009 The Swagger Sticks played their second show at The Bootleg Theater and opened for Toy Robot, a band which features the founding drummer of Pearl Jam, Dave Krusen.
So now that you know a few things about Aron,
go bother him at:
